About

Welcome to Things They Never Told us, written by none other than me, Hannah.

I created this blog in 2016 but to tell you how it all came about, I need to explain a story that I used to be so embarrassed about but now I enjoy telling it purely based on the fact that it shows how far I’ve come.

Let’s take it back to my last year of A Levels. I studied Maths, English, Art and Business Management at a school in South Wales. I loved studying all aspects of business, so much so I decided I wanted to study it further at university. I applied to the University of Reading, knowing that it was a long shot. My teachers all believed that I wouldn’t get the grades to go but I was determined to prove them all wrong. Surprise surprise I got the grades to go, which as you can imagine I was thrilled about.

Everyone always says that Uni will be the best years of your life. Take it from me, they weren’t wrong. I had thee best year at Reading, learning more about business whilst also meeting great friends. However this is where things took a turn. Results day came and I discovered that I failed a module, also meaning that I failed my first year of uni. I was given the opportunity to resit the module but unfortunately I failed that too. Was it down to not studying hard enough, probably. Was it down to partying too hard, potentially. Was it down to not enjoying the subject, absolutely not! The one thing I still knew was that I loved learning about business.

Frantically trying to decide my next steps, I was luckily offered the opportunity to go straight into second year at the University of South Wales to study the same course. Of course I went with this option and guess what? I passed with a first class degree. I was so proud of what I achieved that I decided to study a Masters in Marketing because I knew in myself that I could do it. I studied a one year course a the University of the West of England (Bristol). My time at UWE was the best for me in terms of expanding my knowledge and ability to challenge business decisions. I passed with a distinction and the rest is history!

My Journey

2016

Started my Business Management course at University of Reading. Failed the course at the end of the first year.

2017-2018

Studied the remainder of my course at the University of the South Wales. Passed the course with a first class degree.

2018-2019

Studied a Masters degree at the University of the West of England. Passed the course with a distinction

Last but not least…

I appreciate the above story is quite long but the point I’m getting at is that I followed the crowd to get where I am today. There are always other options available which I’m hoping will be conveyed throughout this blog.

Over the years since then, I’ve worked in Marketing, more specifically Marketing agencies to further my knowledge and expertise in digital marketing. I’m still learning a hell of a lot whilst growing up in my 20s so have developed this blog to offer advice to you all, from buying your first car and house to getting your first job. Essentially, the things that I was never told growing up.

I’m always open to new ideas, so if there’s a particular post you’d like then please feel free to reach out and I can put my perspective on it.
